SPATEC Middle East – Dubai

Today I am back at the office after a short time in Dubai where we were supporting the Questex-McLean Events European team with the on-site operations of the very first SPATEC Middle East! This event brings together buyers and suppliers from the Spa industry in the Middle East and beyond together for two days of one-to-one meetings and other networking activities to make sure that everyone gets the most out of their stay.

Despite the hot and extremely humid weather in Dubai, we had a nice welcome dinner at the beach bar between the two hotels – Le Meridien and Westin – that make up the Mina Seyahi Complex. The venue was beautifully set-up and ideal for a relaxed welcome dinner. After a day of meetings, we treated the delegates to a lovely dinner at an Arabian fortress in the middle of the desert! This Arabian themed dinner came with belly dancers, Arabian musicians, and even a laser juggler that had the SPATEC logo projected out of his juggling batons. This was really a memorable night for all of us. All in all the event was very successful, with most people already wanting to know when and where the next one is going to be.

The icing on the cake was getting a very rare post-event day off in Dubai and getting to see the Burj Khalifa up close, and going up to the observation deck on the 124th floor! It was amazing seeing the sunset from up there, while look down on the city of Dubai below. I couldn’t believe that although being so high up, this was only the middle of the tallest building in the world

Legends & Myths of Malta

Malta's mysterious, 7000 years of history together with it's strong religious background makes it the perfect backdrop to a number of legends, myths and folk tales. Most of the stories find their foundations in truth and historical facts, with each story being embellished by every generation that narrated it. Other stories were used as explanations of different phenomena that people could not explain. Here are some of our favourite myths & legends... St. Paul & The Venomous Viper This is legend is probably the best known amongst the locals, as it is about Malta's Patron Saint and can be found in the Bible. Malta's UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Malta, only 316 square kilometres in size, and home to an impressive 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. OK, so if you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Convention website you will find only 3 properties on the Maltese Islands inscribed on the World Heritage List - these are the City of Valletta, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, and the Megalithic Temples of Malta. However, under the title of "Megalithic Temples of Malta" one can find seven temples around Malta and Gozo, so that makes the total of 9 sites in all. The oldest of all these temples are the two  Ġgantija temples that can be found on the island of Gozo. These temples are renowned for their gigantic Bronze Age structures. Dating from around 3600 to 3200 BC, they are the oldest, free-standing monuments in the world and are evidence that Gozo was inhabited for at least 1000 years before the Egyptians built the pyramids in Giza.
