Isle of MTV Malta Special 2015

In Malta Summer means days at the beach, and nights out partying… We literally find any excuse to party, whether it is a team winning some championship, a bank holiday or a religious village festa we just love to get together and celebrate! Over the past few years, Malta has gone from just being a place where old people go on holiday, to one of the best nightlife destinations in the Mediterranean. Most clubs have free entrances, and drinks are relatively cheap making Malta an inexpensive clubbing destination. Add this factor, to the fact that most of the top 100 DJs choose to perform in Malta and you have a recipe for the perfect club scene.

One of the highlights of Malta’s party calendar is the Isle of MTV concert – MTV’s biggest, free, open air concert in Europe. This concert has been taking place in Malta for the past nine years and manages to attract thousands of local and foreign music lovers every year. Acts that have performed at Isle of MTV include Nicole Scherzinger, Enrique Iglesias, Hardwell, Dizzie Rascal, Snoop Dogg, Jessie J, David Guetta and Lady Gaga.

This year’s version of the concert will be held on the 07th of July at Floriana’s historic Fosos Square. Martin Garrix, voted as the fourth best DJ in the DJ Mag top 100 DJs and known for his break-out dance anthem ‘Animals’ was the first act announced for this year’s concert. The next act to be announced was the British singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Jess Glynne best known for her number one hit ‘Hold My Hand’ and collaboration with Clean Bandit on Rather Be. The latest act to be announced is singer-songwriter and dancer Jason Derulo whose successes rank up there with some of the chart-topping, best-selling pop artists of this day and age. There is one more act to be announced, and everyone has their fingers crossed for their favourite act, but keep checking here to receive the updates!

Ok, so Malta’s hosting MTV’s largest, free concert and we have a good line-up to go with it… That DEFINITELY calls for a reason to celebrate! So local event company G7 events, together with the Malta Tourism Authority, will be hosting the Malta Music Week, a celebration that leads up to the Isle of MTV concert. The events organised during this week will vary from club nights, to street concerts to beach parties and festivals.

So far, this year’s parties will start off on the 03rd July with a party at Gianpula (one of Malta’s largest outdoor clubbing venues) that has Toronto based, synthpop electronic music band, Dragonette as a headliner. On Saturday 04th July, Café del Mar will be hosting the internationally acclaimed, British DJ and deep house producer, Duke Dumont.

Legends & Myths of Malta

Malta's mysterious, 7000 years of history together with it's strong religious background makes it the perfect backdrop to a number of legends, myths and folk tales. Most of the stories find their foundations in truth and historical facts, with each story being embellished by every generation that narrated it. Other stories were used as explanations of different phenomena that people could not explain. Here are some of our favourite myths & legends... St. Paul & The Venomous Viper This is legend is probably the best known amongst the locals, as it is about Malta's Patron Saint and can be found in the Bible. The story says that when St. Paul was shipwrecked in Malta, he was gathering wood to make himself a fire, as he lit the fire a viper was driven out by the heat and bit him. Malta's UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Malta, only 316 square kilometres in size, and home to an impressive 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. OK, so if you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Convention website you will find only 3 properties on the Maltese Islands inscribed on the World Heritage List - these are the City of Valletta, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, and the Megalithic Temples of Malta. However, under the title of "Megalithic Temples of Malta" one can find seven temples around Malta and Gozo, so that makes the total of 9 sites in all. The oldest of all these temples are the two  Ġgantija temples that can be found on the island of Gozo. These temples are renowned for their gigantic Bronze Age structures. Dating from around 3600 to 3200 BC, they are the oldest, free-standing monuments in the world and are evidence that Gozo was inhabited for at least 1000 years before the Egyptians built the pyramids in Giza.
