Malta's Music Scene for 2016

Nighlife in Malta is always buzzing, and the good Mediterranean climate means that outdoor festivals can be enjoyed for most of the year. The line-up for this year's festival season is looking pretty great so far, and is set to get better. The festivals confirmed so far are the following:
Annie Mac Presents Lost & Found

Dates: 31st March - 3rd April 2016

 This year will see Lost & Found coming to Malta for the second consecutive year. This year's event will see top dance DJs such as Disclosure, Eats Everything, DJ EZ, Jackmaster, The Martinez Brothers and many more for 4 days of boat parties, pool parties, and all night raves in exclusive venues including a castle. 

Groovefest Malta
Dates: 29th April - 2nd May 2016

 2016 sees the Groovefest family hitting a new location, a destination that promises a weekend of sunshine and music. Judging from the line-up, which includes artists such as MK, Kerri Chandler, Detroit Swindle, Hot Since 82 and many more, this edition of Groovefest is going to be one to remember! 
Malta Music Week
Dates: 24th - 29th June 2016

 Isle of MTV will this year be celebrating it's 10th anniversary in Malta. In the days leading up to this concert, a local events company in collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority will be hosting Malta Music Week. This week will feature a series of parties, mini concerts and other events that will build up to the Isle of MTV, MTV's largest free concert in Europe. 

 Earlier this month it was revealed that British singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Jess Glynne will be taking part in this year's Isle of MTV.

 Creamfields Malta
Dates: TBC (but usually around the 14th/15th August)

 Anyone who is into the electronic and dance music scene has heard about the Creamfields brand, and knows that they throw some of the best outdoor festivals. No details about this year's event have yet been released, but past editions are always held around the 14th or 15th of August. Past line-ups included world renowned DJs such as Martin Garrix, Paul Oakenfold, Above and Beyond and Steve Angello. 
TheSoundYouNeed - Festival Malta 2016
Dates: 26th - 29th August 2016

 TheSoundYouNeed is an online community that claims to "represent the best in bass, UK house, future garage, lounge music, hip-hop, minimal and more." They allow their two million plus YouTube subscribers to be part of a community that enjoy uncovering new music, sharing it and connecting with other music fans.

 They have organised a number of festivals in the past, with last year's editions taking place in Paris, Antwerp, London, Montenegro, Marseille and Los Angeles. There is currently very little information available about the event in Malta, but we'll make sure to keep you all posted when we find out more.

Malta's UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Malta, only 316 square kilometres in size, and home to an impressive 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. OK, so if you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Convention website you will find only 3 properties on the Maltese Islands inscribed on the World Heritage List - these are the City of Valletta, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, and the Megalithic Temples of Malta. Malta's Game of Thrones Locations

As Game of Thrones fans all over the world celebrate the eagerly awaited sixth season of the hit TV series, we thought that it would be appropriate to take a nostalgic trip back to the first season. Back to the season that saw Viserys receive his crown of gold, the execution of Ned Stark and the wedding of Daenerys to Khal Drogo. As some fans may know, a lot of season 1 was filmed on location in Malta and Ireland, so we decided to list some of our favourite locations in Malta.  1. Mdina Gate - King's Landing Gate Mdina is a walled hill town found in the centre of the island. It is Malta's old capital city and dates back to around 4000 years ago.  In the first season of Game of Thrones, Mdina's city gate was featured as the gate of King's Landing and saw Catelyn and Ser Rodrik Cassel ride through the gates of Mdina (or King's Landing) to investigate the attack on Bran.  2. Legends & Myths of Malta

Malta's mysterious, 7000 years of history together with it's strong religious background makes it the perfect backdrop to a number of legends, myths and folk tales. Most of the stories find their foundations in truth and historical facts, with each story being embellished by every generation that narrated it. Other stories were used as explanations of different phenomena that people could not explain. Here are some of our favourite myths & legends... St. Paul & The Venomous Viper This is legend is probably the best known amongst the locals, as it is about Malta's Patron Saint and can be found in the Bible. The story says that when St. Paul was shipwrecked in Malta, he was gathering wood to make himself a fire, as he lit the fire a viper was driven out by the heat and bit him.
